Application Privacy Policy - Classic Desktop

This Privacy Policy explains how personal information is handled by the Windows desktop applications published by Christopher Fitzsimons, trading as Classic Desktop ("Classic Desktop", "we", "us", "our") and distributed through the Microsoft Store. It currently applies to Reflect Today, Audio2Many, Video2Many, and CompPDF, and to other Classic Desktop applications as they are released. It is separate from the privacy policy that covers this website.

The short version

Classic Desktop applications are local-only. Everything you create or import stays on your own PC. We do not collect it, transmit it, upload it, or have any access to it. We do not run accounts, analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking. We never see your files, recordings, transcripts, or anything else you do in the app.

The only network activity is (a) Microsoft Store update checks, and (b) where a specific app feature needs it, narrowly-scoped lookups described in that app's section below. Your content is not part of any of that traffic.

1. Who is responsible for your information

The applications are published by Christopher Fitzsimons, trading as Classic Desktop, a sole trader based in the United Kingdom. Because the applications keep all of your content on your own device and we never receive it, there is very little personal information for which we act as a controller. Where we do (for example, if you email us for support), we are the controller of that limited information and handle it as described below.

Your purchase is made through the Microsoft Store. Microsoft is the party that processes the transaction and, in most markets, collects any applicable tax. Microsoft is the controller of the personal information involved in that purchase. That information is governed by the Microsoft Privacy Statement (https://privacy.microsoft.com/privacystatement), not by this policy. We only ever receive aggregated, de-identified sales and payout reporting from Microsoft; we do not receive your payment details or identity.

2. What the app accesses on your device

Depending on the application, the software may access your camera, microphone, files, and folders on your PC in order to do its job. Any such access happens entirely on your device. Data is written to, and read from, locations on your own PC that you control. None of it is sent to us or to any third party.

3. What we receive

In normal use of the applications: nothing personal. We do not collect telemetry, usage analytics, crash data tied to you, device identifiers, or your content. The only situations in which we hold any personal information about you are if you contact us (for example, by email for support), in which case we receive whatever you choose to include and use it solely to respond to you; and aggregated Microsoft Store reporting, which does not identify individual customers.

4. Network activity

The app checks for updates using Microsoft Store APIs; this is handled by Microsoft and involves no content of yours. Per-app feature lookups, only where a specific app needs them, are described in that app's section below. We do not run user accounts of our own, upload or sync your content to any cloud, include analytics or telemetry SDKs, serve advertising, or share or sell your information to third parties.

5. Per-application details

Reflect Today

Reflect Today is a personal video-journaling application. It records short video sessions using a webcam and microphone you select, organises them against a calendar, transcribes them, and lets you search and export them.

Camera and microphone. Used only while you are actively recording, to capture the video session you initiate. The webcam and microphone capabilities are declared so Windows can grant this access; you can review and revoke them in Windows Settings at any time.
What is stored, and where. Your recordings (MP4 files) are saved to a storage location you choose on your own PC. Associated metadata is held in a local database file on your PC. You control all of it.
Transcription is fully offline. Speech-to-text runs on your machine using a local model (Vosk). Your audio is never uploaded for recognition and no online speech service is used.
Export is local-to-local. Exporting produces a copy of your recording at a destination you choose, with your title, description, and transcript written into the file's own metadata. Nothing is uploaded.

Audio2Many

Audio2Many is a batch audio-conversion application. You add audio files or folders, choose a single output format and destination folder, and the app converts the files on your PC, copying tags and album artwork across to the converted copies.

Files and folders. Audio2Many reads the source audio files and folders you select and writes the converted files to an output folder you choose. All reading and writing happens on your own PC, in locations you control. Broad file-system access is declared so the app can work with the source and destination paths you pick anywhere on your system; none of those files are sent to us or to any third party.
Conversion is fully on-device. Decoding, encoding, and metadata handling all run locally on your machine. AAC and M4A output is produced using the audio encoder built into Windows (Media Foundation); no audio is uploaded to produce it.
Tags and artwork. Metadata and album artwork are read from your original files and written into the converted copies entirely on your PC.
Network activity: Microsoft Store update checks only. Audio2Many performs no other network communication, and file and folder conversion needs no internet connection.

Video2Many

Video2Many is a batch video-conversion application. You add video files or folders, choose a single output format and destination folder, and the app converts the files on your PC — copying streams across losslessly where no re-encoding is needed, and carrying metadata over to the converted copies.

Files and folders. Video2Many reads the source video files and folders you select and writes the converted files to an output folder you choose. All reading and writing happens on your own PC, in locations you control. Broad file-system access is declared so the app can work with the source and destination paths you pick anywhere on your system; none of those files are sent to us or to any third party.
Conversion is fully on-device. Decoding, re-packaging, and encoding all run locally on your machine, using conversion components bundled with the app and the video encoders built into Windows (Media Foundation). No video is uploaded to convert it.
HEVC output. Converting to HEVC uses the optional HEVC Video Extensions component supplied through the Microsoft Store. If it is not installed, the app offers a link to its Store page; installing it is a normal Microsoft Store interaction governed by the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
Network activity: Microsoft Store update checks only. Video2Many performs no other network communication, and conversion needs no internet connection.

CompPDF

CompPDF is a batch PDF-compression application. You add PDF files or folders, choose an output folder, and the app produces smaller copies of your PDFs on your PC.

Files and folders. CompPDF reads the source PDFs you select and writes the compressed copies to an output folder you choose (or safely in place, if that is what you select). All reading and writing happens on your own PC, in locations you control. Broad file-system access is declared so the app can work with the source and destination paths you pick anywhere on your system. Your documents are never uploaded — unlike web-based PDF compressors, nothing you compress leaves your machine.
Passwords for protected PDFs. If a PDF is password-protected, the password you enter is used only on your own PC to open that file for compression. It is not stored after the run and is never transmitted.
Re-signing with your certificate. If you enable re-signing of compressed PDFs, the signing certificate you supply and its password are used only on your own PC to sign the files you choose. The certificate password is not stored and nothing is transmitted.

6. Children

The applications are general-purpose tools and are not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and in normal use we do not collect personal information from anyone.

7. Security and your control of your data

Your content lives on your own PC under your Windows user account, protected by your own device and account security. You choose where it is stored and you can move or delete it at any time. Because we never receive your content, we cannot lose, expose, or misuse it.

8. Your rights

Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018) you have rights over personal data held about you. In practice we hold almost no personal data about you, so for most requests there is nothing for us to act on. For personal information connected to your Microsoft Store purchase, Microsoft is the controller. If you have concerns, you may contact the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at https://ico.org.uk.

We may update this policy as applications change or are added. The current version is always available at this URL.
